My mom handed-down a Richard Scarry book to my nephew, Soren. On each page you’re supposed to locate a little “goldbug”, and Soren (who is almost 2) can find him every time. At Thanksgiving we all witnessed the little genius at work. I thought it would be fun to make an actual fleece-stuffed-bug that my sister could hide around the house for Soren to find.

A friend of mine asked me to make a theme of baby gifts for a shower she is hosting. The colors of the boy’s nursery are black and white with elephants. What I came up with: one lap quilt, two burp cloths and two bibs. I’ve never met the mom of this baby... I hope she likes everything!

baby calvin

Today we celebrated the birth of baby Calvin!  We are thrilled that the adoption was finalized and now he is in his home of my friends Beth and Mark. This was a fun quilt to sew with the challenge of making it in one week for the baby shower!

castle cakes

Two birthday parties in one week for my little friends, Maja and Grant. This castle cake pan from Wilton worked great for Maja’s princess party, and Grant’s knight theme.

dress alterations

My normal job is a video editor, but last week I had to fill in as a “seamstress”. I work at a large church, where over 10,000 people attend the 5 weekend services. We do all kinds of high-end production, and this last weekend involved dancers in a waterfall. The dance started with the girls wearing green dresses, and then by the end they’re wearing orange dresses (the idea is that they are flowers blooming... its a series about Growth). So my assignment - extend the green dresses with extra fabric; make the green dresses tear away with velcro; and give a split in the side of the orange dresses.

baby gus

Thursday, October 22, 2009

This blanket goes to baby Gus, the son of my friend, Karna. Karna and I met in college, and we were roommates our senior year. Though we live in different cities now, she is still dear to me. The animal fabric is from Ikea... which I thought was appropriate for her. I give all credit to Karna for introducing me to Ikea our freshman year!

This has been our season of traveling! After our weekend to Lake Chautauqua, we went to Chicago, Phoenix, and then France for 2 1/2 weeks. Our first week, we rented a house in northern France in the Normandy area. The second week we lived on a boat in southern France and traveled along the canals. The trip ended with 2 days in Paris. Finally, we are back home trying to find the normal routine that we abandoned for two months.

lake chautauqua

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Every summer growing up, my family spent a week at Camp Mission Meadows on Lake Chautauqua in New York. I also spent one summer there in college as a camp counselor and life guard. I’ve always told Ethan about how special this place was to me, and how I would love to go there again. So as a surprise, Ethan planned a little getaway weekend for just the two of us.

We stayed at the Chautauqua Institution at the Atheneaum, saw Sara Evans in concert, and visited Mission Meadows. It was a wonderful surprise, and even though it rained most of the time... it was a perfect summer weekend on the lake.
