How about this quilt for my friend Cathie? I sometimes make up little rules (or challenges) for myself when I start a new quilt. For this quilt I wanted to use rick-rack; lots of white space; only fabric from my stash; and no square shapes.... so this is what I came up with! I really really like it. (And not bad work for being 36 weeks pregnant). Congrats, Cathie! I can’t wait to meet your daughter!

Another beautiful baby in my friend Beth’s arms! I wish I was quicker to make this quilt for her son (he was born in July!), but I am really pleased with this quilt. I love the colors, and the hexagon design by Anna Marie Horner.

happy birthday, Grant

My nephew turned 9 this weekend, and with the tradition of making his Birthday cake, he requested a robot cake to follow the theme of his Halloween costume. Believe it or not, you can buy silver spray paint for cakes (and yes, those are Twinkies for the robot’s arms, and mini donuts for his legs... yum!).

happy 3rd birthday, jackson

Monday, May 13, 2013

I’m guessing every Birthday will always start with, “I can’t believe...”. I can’t believe this little guy is three. We celebrated Jackson’s Birthday a few days early with a Peter Pan themed party. For months now, he has loved reading Peter Pan every night, and he asked if Wendy, John and Michael Darling could be on his cake. Hmmm? So, I printed off pictures from the internet and laminated them, stuck them on his chocolate cake, and then outlined the pictures with colored frosting. Whew... he loved it!  I can’t believe Jackson is three years old.

I don’t have any pregnant friends right now, so it’s back to sewing for the Ronald McDonald house. Gladly, I should say. Last week I met a boy named Ian from Pennsylvania who is living with a terrible disease. I wish I knew more of his story. It was a brief hello, but so difficult for me to imagine how is family can be living here so far away from home. This particular quilt won’t go to Ian, but to another patient who is about to arrive at the Ronald McDonald House.

Here’s to my friend, Tricia and her baby girls. The twins were born in November, and I ended up  holding this project off til after Christmas. So, a little late, but here are matching green and pink butterfly quilts for Sarah and Emily. Lots of love to your busy and joyful household!

I made this itsy-bitsy quilt for Eva’s baby doll. I used scraps from the quilt I made for Eva last summer.

Happy Halloween to the most adorable crew of toddlers! Popeye The Sailor Man hosted a party today for a Peacock, Shark, Pink Giraffe, Baby Elephant, 4 Fireman, 3 Princesses, Dorothy, a Courageous Lion, and a little Bundle of Newborn Cuteness! Here’s the same crew last year (three babies were added to the group).

happy birthday, Grant

Happy 8th Birthday to Grant! I continued in the tradition of making my nephew’s Birthday cake. The request was an army theme again, so I went with parachuters landing on the cake. The best part of the cake was the inside... a surprise checkered board. I think this eight year old Ace of Cakes fan was excited when the first slice came out.
