happy birthday, Eva

Friday, July 20, 2012

It’s my niece’s second Birthday and I made her a Wonky Star quilt. I gotta say, I really love how it turned out. It’s much smaller than I pictured (or honestly, I’m not great at measuring in the beginning) but I think it will work for her big girl bed. I love you sweet, Eva!

bottle caps

Monday, June 25, 2012

This is what 1300 vintage soda bottle caps from eBay gets you... an awesome kitchen black splash. I am so excited to report that this project is finally finished (after months of working with a hot glue gun and grout). I am thrilled with how it looks next to the striking red cabinets and blue stained floor. Too bad this is not in my kitchen... but a project I did for my husband’s warehouse.

goPro camera

I got to play with a new video camera. It’s pretty cool... wide angle and underwater. Click here to enjoy a 2 minute edit of our summer day.

happy birthday, Jackson!

Thursday, May 17, 2012

We celebrated Jackson’s Birthday a few days early this year. Jackson LOVES anything that goes round-and-round, and so his fascination with pinwheels became the decoration for his cake. I love this boy, and I think this was a happy day for him.

camping quilt

Monday, April 30, 2012

This quilt is for my family. It’s special to me, and I want our family to use it when we go camping. We took our first camping trip this past weekend to Hocking Hills, and I didn’t think to take any pictures of the blanket... so I took some this afternoon with Jackson. The vintage re-print fabric was a gift from Ethan, and I wanted to do the classic patchwork pattern with the old-timey yarn knots.

ronald mcDonald #3 and #4

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Every time I read the Ronald McDonald newsletter I start crying. I don’t know why my heart is so big for these families that have to live away from home to receive medical care for their sick child. I’ll confess, it’s not the newsletters about the starving children in Africa, or the articles about the homeless people in my city that break my heart... it’s the sick children. So when the quarterly update arrived last weekend, I cried, and then went to my sewing room. Here’s more about the volunteer sewing program I joined last year.

I’m so glad spring is here, and I love that spring never fails in my backyard. I see God’s promises and faithfulness in the spring season. For an anniversary gift last November, my husband planted 200 tulip bulbs as a surprise... and here they are now, in all their beauty.

pure hope

Friday, October 19, 2012

I was asked to make and donate a baby quilt for Pure Hope’s silent auction. I love the colors and design, but I am most happy with the quilting. It was my first time using a long-arm-machine at a local studio, and it was really great to learn another way of quilting. Yes, the machine is hooked up to a computer, and you just touch a button and the machine stitches your design... but it was awesome to stand back and watch it do a perfect job. You can see quilted pattern in the close up picture. (And here is a picture of the computer screen showing the flower pattern that was stitched/quilted onto the blanket).

baby audrey

Saturday, September 29, 2012

This baby blanket is for my friend Amy’s beautiful daughter, Audrey. I saw the design on someone else’s blog, and I loved everything about it that I wanted to give it a try. I don’t like the look of a zigzag stitch for applique, so I stitched all the butterflies on by hand. I’m glad it did it by hand, but I just hope it holds up okay. And let me mention how much I love the fabric on the backside! Audrey, I hope you like your little butterflies.

baby jorie

Thursday, August 16, 2012

This is a long over due quilt for sweet baby Jorie who was born back in April. I love this pattern, but my goodness it is a busy looking quilt. I am happy with how it turned out and love the colors, but honestly, I would rather look at the pretty fabric on the backside!
