baby katherine

Thursday, December 15, 2011

Baby Katherine arrived back in September, and here is her quilt! This was the first time I followed (truly followed) a pattern... can you see the owl? It’s from this book, and I think it turned out great... although I learned that I don’t care for patterns as much as I do “winging it”.

For the last year, I’ve been trying to write down things that I am thankful for in the moment. All the little pieces of scrap paper have been collecting in an old tin that sits in our kitchen window. On Thanksgiving day, I wanted to review all the big and small things that God has done for us. It was fun to read the cards with Ethan (and funny that our common response was, “oh yeah!”). We’re on to filling the tin again... so we might have created a Thanksgiving family tradition.

baby isaac

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

Baby Isaac is here! And my friend Amy is now the proud mother of three little boys. I actually made this quilt back in August (see the pretty summer leaves?) and saved it until Isaac’s arrival here in December. I’m so happy he’s here and healthy!

sarah corinne

Happy Birthday to my beautiful sister, Sarah!  I think this quilt design looks like stacks of books, which is perfect for Sarah who just finished her Masters in Library Science. I picture her curling-up with this blanket while reading a good book. And I love the backside... it’s a corduroy that you can really see the free-motion-quilting. Sarah called me today to say that this Birthday present arrived in the mail, and that she loved it. She was really sweet in her appreciation, which made me happy.

happy birthday, grant!

Thursday, November 10, 2011

We celebrated my nephew’s seventh Birthday with an army theme. I carried on the tradition of making Grant’s Birthday cake, and his special request this year was an army tank!

spoiler alert!

We celebrated Halloween a little early this year. We went camping last weekend, and all the kids went trick-or-treating from camper to camper. It was a lot of fun at this campground, and Jackson did a great job as Pinocchio. And he was pretty cute, I gotta say.

play dough and blogs

Sunday, September 11, 2011

When I read other mom-blogs and crafty-blogs I am always inspired to get creative. I get excited about new projects, new ideas and new things I want teach my kid. But honestly, I also get discouraged and wonder, "How does she do it? When does she have the time? Look at how clean her house is".  (Continue reading...)

baby megan

Friday, August 26, 2011

We are all awaiting the arrival of baby Megan. My friend Tricia could deliver any day now, and I wanted to finish this quilt ahead of time. The butterfly fabric is actually from the bedding collection that Tricia picked out for the nursery (so I bought the crib sheet and then used some matching fabric that I had in my stash). I’m hoping that was fun surprise for her to notice the butterfly fabric in the quilt.

allison’s bag

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Our relatives from Rhode Island were in town all week, and Allison and I had a few late nights with lots of sewing, movies, and baking. Allison is an amazing sewer and I am so proud of her! I loved learning from her creative ideas and colorful style. She designed this bag for her new school year, and she did a fantastic job! (P.S. Here’s a picture of Allison as our flower girl four years ago).

the county fair

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

I won! I entered four pieces into our county fair this summer... and three of them took a prize. At first, I was half joking about entering the fair, but I confessed to my husband the other night that I really wanted to win something. I just thought it would be hilarious to have a blue ribbon hanging on my fridge. I am most excited about the second place win for the the patchwork quilt I made for Jackson. This quilted pillow won first place, and this embroidered picture also won first place. The Dresden Plate quilt did not win a prize in the applique category... but that’s okay, look at the other beautiful quilts I was up against!
